What your donation supports through the Texarkana Homeless Coalition:
 

  • Local nonprofit access to reliable information and data about homelessness in Texarkana including an annual Point-in-Time (PIT) Homeless Count each January.
     

  • Public Relations Programming - The coalition promotes homelessness awareness issues through local newspaper articles, radio and speaking engagements.
     

  • Bicycle Share Program - In October 2012, the Texarkana Homeless Coalition began a bicycle share program to increase our homeless population mobility.
     

  • Backpack Beds - In February 2014, the coalition purchased backpack beds to be distributed to our chronically homeless population not currently living in homeless shelters. The backpack beds, designed by Swags for Homeless, are award winning light weight bags that are fire, water, wind and mildew resistant.
     

  • Support for HUD funded interagency programing such as Doorways Home, Texarkana's first HUD funded transitional housing program providing homes for up to 60 formerly homeless individuals each year.
     

  • Capacity building through onsite training and webinars with the Texas Homeless Network and the National Alliance to End Homelessness.
     

  • Travel and training for local non-profit professionals for annual conferences and workshops on ending homelessness.
     

  • Scholarships for homeless individuals.
     

  • Emergency assistance requests for homeless individuals on a case by case basis.
     

  • Veterans assistance support through the VASH program.
